Floods in Namibia: UN calls for emmergency aid

The United Nations needs more than 2.7 million dollars to help the Namibian authorities to deal with floods that hit the northern parts of the country. Some 350 000 people, about 16% of the population, have been affected.” Since early 2009, the northern and north-eastern parts of Namibia have experienced torrential rains, dangerously raising water levels. The highest flood level since 1963 have been recorded in the regions of Kavango and Caprivi, said Michèle Montas, UN Secretary-General’s spokesperon.
