Guinea-Bissau: Soldiers thrash former Prime Minister

José Fadul, Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau in 1999 and currently opposition member and president of the Court of Auditors, was attacked Wednesday by men in uniform, Le Soleil reports. He was admitted to the emergency room of Simao Mendes hospital. He is reported to have sustained multiple contusions to his head and chest. “These men in uniform forcibly entered my house. It was 0100. They insulted me, beat me up and dragged me on the ground. They say I talk too much, even when the issues do not concern me”, Mr. Fadul told AFP. Last week, he criticized the Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior, accusing him of using the military to consolidate his power while placing close allies in key positions of State.
