Malawi rejects Madonna’s adoption bid

The application for adoption for Chifundo James, a 4 year old orphan, filed this week by American singer Madonna, was rejected Friday by a Malawi court, Mail & Guardian reports. Judge Esmie Chondo, in a decision read in the press before the court in Lilongwe, said that the girl no more lived in poverty as she has been admitted to an orphanage in Kondanani. He also argues that Malawian law requires that the prospective applicant lives in the southern African country for at least eighteen months. Madonna, 50, who recently divorced from British director Guy Ritchie, had already adopted a first Malawian child, David Banda.
