The official results of the South African general elections held on April 22, 2009, saw the African National Congress (ANC) in the lead with a total of 65.9% of the vote. However, with 264 deputies out of 400, the ANC was not able to reach the threshold of a two-thirds majority needed to amend the constitution at will. According to Jacob Zuma, it is nevertheless a splendid victory that will see him become the next President of the Republic of South Africa on 6 May.
