Police dispersed demonstrators opposed to the August 6 coup Monday as they gathered in support of anti-coup Mauritanian MPs taking part in a sit-in at the country’s National Assembly, Mauritanie-web has reported. The police reportedly used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. The divide between pro and anti putschists has grown following the juntas plans to hold early presidential elections scheduled for June 6. The opposition plans to boycott the elections.
