Egypt announces first Swine flu related death

Egyptian health ministry has reported the death of a 28-year-old woman returning from a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The established cause of death is A/H1N1 influenza virus (Swine flu). This first death resulting from the A/H1N1 virus occurred Sunday, July 19, 2009. Egypt has been debating on whether or not to cancel the Haj – the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca required of all able Muslims. According to reports, the number of Swine Flu cases in Arab countries has been growing, with Saudi Arabia recording the highest number of cases. Many have connected the spread of the flu to the Haj.
