The Catholic Pope Benoit XVI has expressed concerns regarding the current situation in Africa, according to the BBC. While speaking during the opening of a three week synod for African bishops, Benoit XVI suggested that the social injustices and wars which afflict Africa today are mainly due to the “toxic spiritual rubbish” of materialism brought in by the first world. “Colonialism never fully disappeared,” he said.
