Gabon: Two journalists receive death threats

According to the AFP, a journalist from Gabonews has been threatened with death after publishing a few articles covering last August’s presidential elections. The journalist, whose name has not been disclosed, is believed to have received phone calls and an email, with threats to burn him alive. He has been accused “of giving false information regarding the elections won by Ali Bongo,” explained Rodriguez Asseyi, editor-in-chief at Gabonews. Prior to this, Jonas Melinda, a journalist from the national daily newspaper L’union, had also received threats, in connection to his articles on the post-election violence in Port-Gentil, the country’s second largest city.
