Sudan’ People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) refused to take into account President Omar el-Bashir’s call for dialogue, according to Voice of America. The president said that engaging in a conversation is key in order to create a better climate and prevent violence in the upcoming 2010 elections. For the SPLM, President el-Bashir needs to act rather then make promises. They believe he is attempting to re-negotiate the terms of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), which they need to implement. The upcoming elections, which will be taking place next April, will be the first democratic general elections in Sudan since 1986.
