Egypt’s leading cleric, Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi of Al-Azhar declared on Thursday that students and teachers will be forbidden from wearing face veils in classrooms and dormitories of Sunni Islam’s premier institute of learning.

He affirmed this was part of an effort to restrict radical Islamic Practices, reports IOL.

Last Monday, the Al-Azhar cleric had ordered a student to remove her niqab while he was visiting an all-girls school in Cairo.
