Ahead of the World Food Day, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation plans to announce a donation of $120 million for the development of agricultural projects in Africa and India. Microsoft founder, Bill Gates is scheduled to make the announcement later today, Thursday, when speaking at the World Food Prize in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, according to AFP. The funding is to increase the capacity of African farmers to feed their families and to produce an excess to boost incomes, reports AllAfrica. The Foundation, which is one of the largest donors in this field, had already committed over $1.4 billion to agricultural development efforts. Former United Nation Secretary-General Kofi Annan said “the new support to AGRA from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is coming at the right time for Africa, where strong national policy action is essential to end poverty and attain African Food Security.
