Uganda: Minister seeks the death penalty for homosexuals

Ndorwa West MP David Bahati, has proposed an offense of “aggravated homosexuality” to be punishable by the death penalty. The Uganda MP wants this bill to be applicable for those who have gay sex with disabled people, under 18 years old or when the offender is HIV positive, writes TheNewVision Homosexual acts are already illegal in Uganda, but the Anti-Homosexuality Bill proposes news offences. Earlier version of the bill was widely criticized by human rights groups. According to BBC, The bill states that its provisions are intended to “protect the traditional family by prohibiting any form of sexual relations between persons of the same sex.” There are approximately 500,000 homosexuals in Uganda, for a population of 31 million.
