Kenya: Five-story building collapses, trapped victims call from their mobile phones

Up to 20 people were feared dead in Kenya yesterday, Tuesday, after a five-storey building under construction collapsed in Kiambu, 20 km northeast of Nairobi, notes Reuters. Local media said eleven dead bodies had been retrieved from under piles of rubble. Central Province police chief, John Mbikiwe said some of those still trapped in the rubble were calling their relatives via their cell phones. “We are still on the ground trying to help those trapped in building,” he said, according to IOL. The cause of the collapse is still unknown.
