Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has announced plans to start an irrigation project on the trans-boundary Omo River. The announcement comes in spite of an unresolved contention raised over the government’s Gibe III Hydropower Project, which is currently underway to generate 1800MW. Analysts argue that Ethiopia should negotiate with countries like Kenya and Egypt before embarking on such projects.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has all the rights and patriotic decisions to use their waters for the benefit of his people. In colloquial expression, ethiopian rights over their resources is bounded between their neighbor countries up to heaven. Where during the olden times there is agreement that Kenya and Egypt has water rights over Ethiopian rivers flowing down to Egypt, it doesnt mean that Ethiopia could not use their rivers for the benefit of his people. Go..go Ethiopia do not be afraid. - Thursday 3 February 2011 - 01:45

Excellent news!! While many just talk the talk, Meles walks the walk; he shows tangible results. The plan is great, and this will eventually benifit all, including Kenya. Right on, Ethiopia! - Friday 28 January 2011 - 09:54

Is this part of the development programme. How long can reign by cheating donors, terrorizing people and looting while others are starving to death. A sustainable development is only possible where there is no fear and state terror and all citizins take the projects as their own. - Thursday 27 January 2011 - 23:06
