The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Thursday named Shuaibu Amodu coach of the national soccer side, the Super Eagles, succeeding German Berti Vogts who was sacked after the last Nations Cup in Ghana.
NFA Chairman Sani Lulu announced the appointment of the local coach after a meeting in the capital city of Abuja.
“We have accepted the report of the three man committee we set up to look into the coaching issue and we unanimously agreed that Shuaibu Amodu will be the new head coach of the Eagles,” Lulu said.
Lulu also named former Eagles’ star Daniel Amokachi and Fatai Amoo as assistant coaches while former Eagles’ keeper Alou Agwu will be the trainer of the team’s goalkeepers.
The coaching crew has been charged with qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2010 Nations Cup and World Cup.
Amodu, who has handled several Nigerian clubsides, previously coached the national side in 2002.
