Libya helps free Nur Missuari in the Philippines

Nur Missuari, President of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), was liberated Friday evening, in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, by the Kadhafi Foundation for Development, a statement from the Philippines’ Ministry of Information announced.

The foundation’s mediation followed the visit made 12 December 2007 to the Philippines by its president, Seif-Ul Islam Mouammar Kadhafi.

In the course of their various meetings, Kadhafi stressed the role of his institution in the establishment of unity between the various factions of the MNLF as a pre-condition for the achievement of peace in the Philippines.

The statement stressed that Missuari’s freedom followed the intervention of Kadhafi.

In another development, a statement published Saturday by the foundation announced it will in May, host here, several meetings, focussing on various activities and initiatives aimed at fostering unity and peace for the benefit of Philippines muslims.

In the course of his visit to the Philippines, the president of the Kadhafi Foundation met President Gloria Ayorro to discuss the current peace talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front as well as Nur Missuari’s imprisonment for several years.

The President of Philippines also accepted to expedite Missuari’s trial to allow his freedom before too long.

The foundation’s president also expressed Libya’s willingness to host Nur Missuari and issue him a passport.
