Indianapolis – Superdelegate Jo Andrew who endorsed Hillary Clinton last November, unexpectedly and without the knowledge of the two democratic presidential candidates switched allegiance from Clinton and endorsed Barack Obama, Thursday.

Jo Andrew said that Obama “has shown such mettle under fire,” does not pander “for political gain” nor does he partake in “political theatre but stands up “for principle”. He further explained that his decision to defect was influenced by Barack Obama’s ability to rise above difficult issues including the Wright controversy as well as his opposition of the gas tax moratorium suggested by both McCain and Clinton.

Jo Andrew who says that “a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process is a vote that assists John McCain.” also told AFP that he is “convinced that the primary process has devolved to the point that it is now bad for the Democratic Party”, urging other superdelegates to take the same decision in order to “heal the rift in our party”.

Mr. Andrew who was appointed Democratic National Committee Chairman during Bill Clinton’s final years as president says he expects the Clinton campaign to brand him as a “traitor, an opportunist and a hypocrite … I will be branded as disloyal, power hungry. But most importantly they will use the exact words that Republicans used to attack ” him when he supported Bill Clinton.
