Researchers have studied the brain function of 29 individuals who were placed in a simulator and asked to listen to a sentence and respond to it while driving.
The results show that an accident is virtually a certainty. Brain activity associated with concentration and spatial awareness – which takes place in the parietal lobe of the brain – was found to be reduced by 37%!
The researchers also noted reduced activity in the occipital lobe, which is associated with vision. Which, to put it simply, means that talking on the phone while driving is setting out on the road to disaster.
