The Vatican has named Monseigneur Joseph Befe Ateba bishop of the new diocese at Kribi, in the south of Cameroon, a reliable ecclesiastical source confirmed Thrusday.

The Vatican has named Monseigneur Joseph Befe Ateba bishop of the new diocese at Kribi, in the south of Cameroon, a reliable ecclesiastical source confirmed Thrusday.

Monseigneur Ateba, 46, was the vicar general of the Archdiocese of Yaounde, the Cameroonian capital.

The apostolic Nuncio for Cameroon and Equitorial Guinea, Monseigneur Eliseo Antonio Ariotti, said that faithful catholic worshippers have been waiting impatiently for the nomination of a bishop who will lead them following the outburst at the Ebolowa-Kribi diocese.

The Ebolowa-Kribi diocese covers the departments of Mvila, Ntem Valley and Ocean with a number of 23 parishes.
