Another Zimbabwean soccer player could find himself plying his trade in France. NJUBE Sundowns star striker Evans Chikwaikwai is on trials with French Ligue 2 side Racing Club Strasbourg.

Chikwaikwai is currently the leading goal scorer with 17 goals.

He jetted out of Zimbabwe on Monday and had his first training session with the club on Tuesday.

“He left on Monday and trained the following day. He is trying to beat the transfer deadline and should he make the grade, Sundowns will release him,” said his current club Secretary Tawengwa Hara said.

Sundowns is now waiting to hear from the Strasbourg technical department before any negotiations could start.

Should Chikwikwai make the grade, he will join former Warriors striker Harlington Shereni who joined the club this season on loan from Nantes.

He will have to impress within a short time as the transfer window closes at midnight on Sunday.

It will be a fairytale rise for the player from the rural Rusape who arrived largely unnoticed in the domestic league at the start of last season, but made it into the final 11 in the Soccer Star of the Year selection.

He has several accolades to his name. The young striker has curved a reputation of scoring more than one goal for his team per match.

Chikwaikwai played two games under Warriors coach Valinhos in the COSAFA Championships against Zambia and the international friendly against Botswana last week.

If he makes the grade, he will become only the third player from Zimbabwe to play in France after Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari, who made his mark at AJ Auxerre before moving to England to join Portsmouth and later Manchester City, and Shereni.
