“In Ghana, there are good opportunities for establishing equal and sustainable partnerships between Danish and Ghanian researchers”, says Henrik Secher Marcussen, Professor and chairperson for the Consultative Research Committee for Development Research (FFU) after the committee’s recent visit to Ghana.

The purposes of FFU’s visit in Ghana were to assess the experiences with the FFU support to development research projects, to gain a better understanding of the situation/role of research in Ghana, and to see how the interaction between research and development assistance can be improved.

FFU visited universities, research institutions and relevant ministries as well as research projects.

“Collaboration between Danish and Ghanian researchers will promote the necessary connection between development work and high quality research with relevance and effect for Ghana’s development”, elaborates the Danish Ambassador in Ghana, Stig Barlyng.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will now look into the specific opportunities for Ghana to be included in the group of pilot countries for development research in 2011. Ghana will thereby follow Vietnam and Tanzania as the next pilot country.
