The 4th edition of the Euro-Mauritanian friendship semi-marathon will take place 8 March, the day marking the celebration of international women’s day, an EU statement made available to panapress announced Sunday. The 21-kilometre half-marathon is jointly organised by the Ambassadors of Germany, France, Spain, the European Commission, the German Cooperation (GTZ) Office and the Mauritanian Athletics Association (FARIM), with the support of the Ministries of Culture and Sports. It aims to strengthen friendship ties between Mauritania and the EU. The event, which will also include a 10-kilometre race for the public and students and a 5-kilometre race for the handicapped, will start from the Office of the Olympic Complex (OCO) and finish at the same place. The military has for several years dominated the 21-kilometre race, which is the highpoint of the event.
