Ghana Black Stars to play Mexico 26 March in London

Fresh from their third-place performance at the 2008 Afric an nations’ cup contest, the Black Stars of Ghana will play Mexico’s national Te a m A in a friendly football match in London 26 March. It will be the first match for the Ghanaians who hosted and won the bronze medal at the 20 January to 10 February nations’ cup contest which was won by defending champions Egypt. At a press briefing at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) secretariat in Accra Tuesday, President of the Association, Kwesi Nyantekyi, said the match would mark the beginning of Ghana’s preparations for the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola and the World Cup in South Africa. He said other matches were in the pipeline for the Black Stars to make sure they attain good form before the 2010 qualifiers begin in June. Ghana are ranked 14th in the latest standings announced by FIFA, while the Mexic ans are 16th. This will be the second time the two sides will be meeting in friendly matches. Their first encounter was in the US in March 2006 when the Mexicans won by a lone goal.
