South Africa has been rocked by an explosive racial incident which has resulted in rioting at a major university campus. A video showing four white students humiliating a group of black workers at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein has been leaked to the media. The video which was filmed last year, shows the employees on their knees eating food which had been urinated on. The students were immediately suspended and it is not clear whether they will face criminal charges. Rioting students were dispersed by police Wednesday. Several hundred students, workers and personnel protested against the video and unions handed memorandums over to the management. AfriForum’s Kallie Kriel said the deed was inexcusable and that he was sure that “this small group’s behaviour will be condemned by the majority of the students of the university”. The African Christian Democratic Party has offered to facilitate solution for campus violence and that they were “deeply concerned” about conflict now breaking out countrywide on campuses.
