The South African President, Thabo Mbeki, will be in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius on March 12 to partake in festivities marking the country’s 40th independence anniversary. Cabinet ministers gathered Friday to chose Mr. Mbeki as the guest of honour for the independence celebrations. Mauritius got its independence from the British crown on the 12th of March 1968. To facilitate movement on the festive day, the government has decided to cut some transport fares by half while the aged (sixty plus) and children (below 13) will not pay for transport services in the country.
