The international Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), on Sunday released former Rwandan local councilor Vincent Rutaganira, after serving six years in prison for his his role in the 1994 genocide. The ICTR had sentenced Rutaganira to six years in prison for “complicity of extermination,” on 14 March 2005. He has expressed his wish not to return to Rwanda, saying he was seeking a host country. Rutaganira, 68 years, was local councilor in Mubuga, western Rwanda. The ICTR, based in Arusha, northern Tanzania, has so far sentenced 30 people and acquitted five others. Panapress
