The World Bank (WB) and the African Development Bank (Af DB) have granted Gambia US$ 28 million, towards the implementation of the country ‘s “Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP II)” under the WB and AfDB Joint Assistance Strategy” arrangement, a press communique from the world’s apex bank said Monday. According to the communique, the development followed an endorsement by World Bank Board of Executive Directors 26 February in Washington, US. “This Joint Assistance Strategy (JAS) is an important step in the process of aid harmonisation,” said Madani Tall, the World Bank’s representative in the Gambia . Another World Bank official, Francoise Perrot, also hailed the “joint strategy”, saying under it, “the World Bank and AfDB have developed shared-objectives and a common platform for lending and non-lending services under two main pillars.” The two institutions will support The Gambia to strengthen its institutional fra mework for economic management and public service delivery, and enhance its prod u ctive capacity and accelerate growth and competitiveness.
