South African President Thabo Mbeki, on the second day of his visit to Mauritius, has said the economic success of the island should be a source of inspiration to all Africa. Mbeki, a guest of honour at the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Mauritian independence, spoke during a visit to Mauritius’ National Botanical Garden Wednesday morning. He said Africans could solve their own problems by following the Mauritian model. “We have long-standing collaboration with this country, dating back to the days of suppression, and now we are celebrating the success of this island,” he said. The South African leader will attend the official celebration of the Mauritian independence anniversary Wednesday afternoon before returning home in the evening. Panapress.
