Supporters of the Chadian political opponent, Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh, who went missing on 3 February in N’Djamena, Chad, gathered Saturday afternoon near the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, here, to demonstrate loyalty to the politician, the Panapress correspondent noted.

Without slogan or megaphone, the demonstrators handed out tracts, demanding the truth on the fate of the Chadian political opponent and denouncing France’s “blind support” to the regime of President Idriss Déby. Banners carried by the demonstrators, who mainly came from the ranks of the Ch adian diaspora, read: “Chad: Release political opponent Ibni”, “Eufor associated with a process of liquidation of the Chadian opposition.”

“Sarkozy: friend and backer of dictators: where does the departure lie?”; “No! to the bogus commission of enquiry”, demonstrators, who are staging their fourth gathering in the French capital, denounced on the banners they carried.

“We are going to keep mobilising until the whole truth is out about the fate of Mr Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh. We do not intend to let ourselves be distracted by manoeuvres of the Chadian government, backed by France”, Hicham Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh, the son of the Chadian political opponent.

“Déby must realise he has arrested an important person in Chad,” Hicham, who joined the demonstration with his younger brother, said.

A petition of support to Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh, launched by “the Mathematical International community” has already collected more than 1,000 signatures in less than three days.

It was submitted Friday at the Elysée Palace by the colleagues of Mr Mahamat Saleh, a Chadian mathematician and academic.
