Archbishop Victor Tonye-Bakot of the Catholic Archdiocese of Yaounde, Cameroon, was seriously wounded in a road accident here Thursday, the Cameroon state-owned television reported. The prelate suffered fractures in the thigh bone, pelvis and the rib, the report quoted his doctor at the Yaounde main hospital, where he was taken for treatment, as saying. The doctor said the Archbishop might have to be taken abroad for more appropriate care. Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred when a lorry rammed into the Archbishop’s car. Several Cameroonian cabinet members, including Prime Minister Ephraim Inoni, and the apostolic nuncio have already visited the ailing prelate. Panapress.
