Six days after the Comoros army backed by African Union forces invaded the island of Anjouan and put to flight Colonel Mohamed Bacar, an acting president has been sworn-in, to organise an election to elect a new president of the island, sources told panapress on Monday in Moroni. Laïlizamane Abdou Cheikh described his mission as difficult saying, “everything must be done to restore democracy and enforce the rule of law in Anjouan”. Abdou Cheikh, 40, a judge by training, had been judge, vice-president and then president of the tribunal of the Anjouanese capital, Mutsamudu, before becoming president of the Appeal Court in 2006.
