A senior Nigerian police officer has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Nigeria’s commercial city of Lagos, police sources said here Wednesday. The sources identified the officer as John Chukwu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police said to be the number two man at the Federal Investigations Bureau in the city. Chukwu was said to have been shot dead in his residence on the outskirts of the city Saturday night by the gunmen, who invaded his residence and switched off his power generator to lure him out of his apartment. Since the gunmen did not attempt to enter the residence, analysts said Chukwu could have been targeted over a case he was investigating, instead of a case of armed robbery. Past high profile killings in Nigeria have gone unresolved, raising fears that the killers of the police officer might not be found. Panapress.
