The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Thursday began announcing the delayed results of senatorial elections held at the weekend, with the ruling party and opposition neck and neck. ZEC announced results in 10 constituencies, in the first batch, with the ruling ZANU-PF party and the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) each winning five seats. Earlier Thursday, ZEC finished announcing poll results of the lower house of parliament, in which the opposition for the first time since the country’s independence in 1980 won the majority of seats. But the elections body remained mum on the results of the key presidential vote held simultaneously with the polls for the lower and upper houses of parliament. There were, however, growing indications Thursday that the country was headed for a run-off in the presidential election in three weeks. Panapress.
