A soldier has died of his injuries following a truck bomb attack by an Islamic terrorist group against the base of the Burundian peacekeeping contingent in Mogadishu, Somalia, National Defence Force (FDN) Spokesman, Lt.-Col. Adolphe Manirakiza said here Wednesday. The body of the first victim of the 850-strong Burundian military contingent, whose identity has not been disclosed by the FDN army staff, was expected to be flown back to Bujumbura Wednesday (today) afternoon aboard a Kenya Airways commercial flight, Manirakiza said. The military official condemned the attack against “peace keepers whose sole aim is to help the Somalian brothers reconcile”. The FDN spokesman has however ruled out any plan to withdraw the Burundian military contingent despite the attack. “Every trade has its risks and we will keep fulfilling the commitment made before the international community to contribute to the return of a lasting peace in Somalia,” he said.
