The White House has given the order to release 200 million dollars in food aid to help fight the food crisis that has hit the world over the past few weeks. The world bank and IMF raised the alarm this weekend as riots sprung all over the world against the increase of food prices. Mr. Zoellick president of the world bank claims that at least 500 million dollars are needed to calm the food crisis (CNN). According to Dana Perino, press secretary, “This 200 million dollars will address the emergency, and if more is needed we will strongly consider it.” (France 24).
