World soccer’s governing body, FIFA, has threatened to suspend the Alphonse Massamba-Débat Stadium in Brazzaville, the Congolese capital, for failure to comply with international standards, a source close to the Congolese Football Association (FECOFOOT) said on Tuesday. FIFA had suggested, among other things, the setting up of a press gallery, a hall where doping tests will be conducted, an office equipped for match commissioners and numbering of seats in the stadium. Built in 1963, the Alphonse Massamba-Débat Stadium, the biggest in the country, has a capacity of 25, 000 fans. It is named after President Massamba-Débat, who led the country from 1963 to 1968.
