The Indonesian government is under pressure to ban a muslim sect known as the Ahmadiyya muslim community. The Indonesian constitution protects the freedom of religion, however, yesterday thousands of protesters gathered around the presidential palace to demonstrate against the Ahmadiyya community saying that its beliefs go against and are a threat to Islam. Contrary to the mainstream Muslim belief that the Prophet Muhammed was the last prophet, the Ahmadiyya community claim that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, their founder, was in fact a prophet.
