Gavin and Stacey were the big winners of yesterday’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards. One of the creators of Gavin and Stacey, a BBC3 sitcom, was rewarded with the BAFTA for best comedy performance for his role as Smithy. The show also won the Audience Award for Programme of the Year. Other winners include Dame Eileen Atkins who has won her first BAFTA (Best Actress) at age 73 for her role in Cranford (Press Association).
