Stephen Hawking, the British astrophysicist, called for a new era of space conquest during the NASA 50 year anniversary this Monday. Hawking drew comparisons with the Columbus expedition that ended in what was considered the discovery of the New World. He envisioned the possibility of building a base on the moon before the second half of the century and traveling out of our solar system in the next two or three centuries. (AFP)
