Food crisis: Philippines demands rice export ban to be lifted

Manila has demanded that the export ban on rice that several Asian countries have put in place to limit the soaring rice prices be removed, calling for “moral persuasion” from the UN, according to Al Jazeera. The Philippines is the world’s biggest rice importer and is as far as three years from rice self sufficiency according to Reuters.
