Tension is high between Russia and Georgia following a statement today from the Russian foreign ministry indicating that Georgia was planning a war in Abkhazia according to BBC News. The statement said that “a bridgehead is being prepared for the start of military operations against Abkhazia”. These allegations were backed by the fact 1,500 military and police were gathered in Georgia near Abkhazia according to the government. However the Georgian government has denied this fact through the Interior Minister spokesman, Shota Utiashvili who said “there has been no increase in forces from the Georgian side, nothing at all. The Russian statement is simply not true.”according to AFP.
