Several members of the Association of the Unemployed in Roche-Bois, a suburb of the Mauritian capital Port-Louis, took to the streets Wednesday morning to demand jobs. Association spokesman Judex Ratna said the members wanted jobs at the port of Port-Louis, located in their area. “We will make sure the authorities who promised us jobs deliver, otherwise we will stage (more) demonstrations,” he told journalists. He disclosed that there was a large number of unemployed people in Roche-Bois, saying the situation was driving youths to crime, drug abuse and prostitution.
