Yesterday President Bush asked congress for 770 million dollars in food aid in addition to the 200 million already given last month by the US government according to The LA Times. Congress is believed to approve this demand to face the soaring prices of food and fuel that have sparked riots and hunger around the world. Global food prices have gone up 43% from March to March between 2007 and 2008. Of the money requested, $395 million would go toward traditional emergency food aid, $225 million for a disaster assistance account, and $150 million for a multiyear development effort. (LA Times).
