UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has appointed Omar Kabbaj, the former managing director of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and current adviser to King Mohammed VI of Morocco, as a member of the advisory Water and Sanitation Council, an official source said here Wednesday. The apointment was made based on the proposal by The Netherlands Crown Prince and chairman of the council, the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) reported. The 20-member council seeks to help the UN and the international community reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on water access and sanitation. Kabbaj is also member of a Commission on HIV/AIDS and governance in Africa, to which he was appointed in 2003 by the then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
