Myanmar : Holidays and visa formalities slow down international aid

According to BBC News the foreign ministry in Myanmar has refused to let international aid workers operate on its soil. The government says it is ready to receive aid but only if the distribution is seen to by local authorities. Dozens of aid experts are reported to be waiting for visas in neighbouring Thailand – but the Burmese embassy there has now closed for a public holiday until next Tuesday (BBC News).
