Chinese Embassy officials in Nigeria Friday confirmed the abduction of three workers of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in Calabar, capital of the southern state of Cross River on Thursday. The workers were kidnapped by unidentified persons while they were returning to their residence in the company’s compound within the city about 4pm local time. Already, the abductors have demanded a ransom before they could release the workers. CCECC officials said the ransom demand was contained in a letter left in the workers’ vehicle, which was abandoned by the kidnappers, and that they have entered into negotiations for the release of the workers. Chinese workers have previously been abducted in the restive oil region, but all were released unharmed.
