The Moroni Protestant Church has been desecrated by unidentified people with obscene words written in black ink on the walls. The paper “L’Archipel” said on Monday that a police enquiry has so far not identified the culprits. The obscene words are in broken French with the authors writing about hatred against Christians. The leader of the small protestant community in the Comoros and assistant of the consul of Madagascar in Moroni identified as the Reverend Willy, who was visibly stunned by the desecration, said he had not seen anything like that before. “We have been here for 30 years and have never seen anything similar. We have never been worried in the practice of our religion,” Rev. Willy said, adding that he wanted to “to keep cohabiting peacefully”. Some 98 per cent of the Comoros population is Muslims. He said in his opinion, the sacrilege was “an isolated act” by people who were being “manipulated” by a group for hidden motives he cannot fathom.
