According to Al Jazeera at least 40 people died and over a hundred are still missing after a ferry sunk in the Ghorautura River on Monday. The ferry carried a total of 150 passengers on board of which only 25 have made it safely to the shore according to local authorities. Ferry accidents occur frequently in Bangladesh and hundreds of people die every year. Poor enforcement of safety laws means boats are often badly serviced and often packed beyond capacity (Al Jazeera).
