BBC News reports that, according to data gathered by the Zoological Society of London, at least a quarter of the world’s wildlife has been destroyed over the past 40 years. The data also states that we are wiping out 1% of the world’s wildlife per year. Pollution, urbanization, farming and massive hunting and fishing are mainly responsible of the plummeting wildlife population. The WWF is calling on governments meeting in Bonn to honor their commitments to put in place effective protected areas for wildlife and to adopt a target to achieve net annual zero deforestation by 2020 (BBC News).
