Annual inflation in Zimbabwe soared to 355,000 percent in March, up from 165,000 percent the previous month, a local newspaper reported Friday. The Zimbabwe Independent, quoting Ministry of Finance sources, predicted annual inflation to soar to 1,200,000 percent this month. A government statistics agency, the Central Statistical Office, stopped issuing inflation figures in February, accusing retailers and manufacturers of using the data to profiteer. But the Zimbabwe Independent said it had obtained the March figures from the Ministry of Finance, under whom the statistics agency falls. The southern African country, grappling with twin economic and political crisis, has had the highest inflation in the world for several months.
